The jewel of the area is La Manga del Mar Menor, a paradise between two seas with infinite beaches, sandy sea beds and crystalline waters. The region of Murcia has the typical Mediterranean semi-arid subtropical climate: with an average annual temperature of 18?C, with hot summers and mild winters (an average temperature of 11?C in the winter months of December and January). On the coast temperatures tend never to fall below 10?C, whilst inland at higher altitudes they may not exceed 6?C. The latter areas show a higher average annual rainfall, which reaches 600 mm/yr.

The railway network connects Murcia from any part of Europe, via Barcelona, and there a new the high speed train (AVE) from Madrid and the Valencia region. San Javier Airport is located on the northern shore of Mar Menor, 47 km from the city of Murcia and a new regional airport equipped with state-of-the-art national and international air transport infrastructures is planned.

Water sports offered include sailing, canoeing, swimming, water-skiing, jet-skiing, kite surfing, windsurfing. The Nautical Resort on the Mar Menor hires out equipment and runs sailing courses. There is great hiking along the coast, from Cabo de Palos and Portman to Cartagena or Mazarron, the Natural Park of Calnegre or Cabo Cope. In the inland areas hiking, pony-trekking, mountain-biking, photographic routes, historical and archaeological routes, mountaineering, rock-climbing, trekking, rural tourism, rafting anre all available.
